IntelligentX—the company responsible for the development of this approach—is using methods of artificial intelligence to brew beer! The basic outline of how it works is that the AI receives feedback from consumers and uses this data to create new tastes of beer suited to them.
In 2016, the company had brewed four different beers with the assistance of AI and is said to evolve as customer feedback increases. They call it Automatic Brewing Intelligence (also known as ABI). This works by receiving customer feedback from the Facebook Messenger platform, where consumers are asked a series of questions about the beer. The AI then collects all this data, and by using machine learning, it suggests new recipes to the brewers.
Vice versa, the brewers are also able to submit their feedback to the system so that it may suggest alternative ingredients or learn which of these ingredients work best (“Anonymous”, 2016).
